Visual Art – Columbus

A native of Columbus, Ohio Ryan Jefferson is predominantly a self taught Graphic Artist and Illustrator. Ryan has also adapted multi-media approaches for designing T-shirts and graphic art. Through his work with these non-traditional canvases, such as garments and headgear, this translated into an increased awareness and interest in texture as focality in art with regards to paint application upon various surfaces. Ryan's artistic inspiration largely comes from the comic and animation world. Being heavily influenced by artist such as Greg Capullo, Jim Lee, Michael Turner, and Bruce Tim as well as the Japanese influences of Akira Toriyama and Hayao Miyazaki. Drawing on these sources and combining them strongly with African-American cultural influences his work lends itself to celebrating and examining both pop culture at large and various artistic sub cultures.
