Visual Art – Edmonton

As a mom of 3, step mom of 3 more, and wife of a bee keeper, you need to find some form of therapy and me time. Having been raised by a very artistic mom, I’ve always been a dabbler in being creative. In 2017 my husband and I ventured into bee keeping and coincidentally I took a mixed Media class that summer and was introduced to Encaustic (beeswax) Painting. I fell in love with the therapeutic scent of the beeswax, the textures and 3D nature, the dreamy hues of the earth pigments and the absolutely frustrating exercise of making hot wax look like something before it cools and hardens! The finished pieces carry the scent of beeswax into your home and are usually quite full of texture for those of us that are tactile shoppers! You know what I mean, you have to feel the fabric of a garment in addition to just being visually interested in it...maybe that’s just me. As I said, this is my therapy and my hobby that I work on most moments of my free time. Some are abstract, some impressionistic, some “realistic” and my favourite subject has to be landscapes. This art form is so unique and I learn new things all the time which I guess it part of what intrigues me.
