Double Double is, at its heart, the sound of friendship. Neil Douglas Fraser and Landon Turlock first met in 2008 during junior high. At the time, Fraser played drums and Turlock played lead guitar, and the pair bonded over a mutual love of pop punk and classic rock. After a few failed attempts at starting bands together, the two settled into a fast friendship. It wasn’t until a few years after graduation that Double Double's folk blend began to brew.
Fraser, having switched to vocals and acoustic guitar, started presenting Turlock with various song ideas after weekend brunches. When Turlock lent some arrangement ideas and countermelodies to Fraser’s energetic, soulful folk songs, the pair decided to adopt the name Double Double and craft the music that would eventually appear on their self-produced EP, Tag Along. The four track record was released in November 2017.
The album's title track saw some local radio play, and helped the group establish themselves in partnership with local Edmonton promoter YEG Music, with whom they've performed upwards of 10 times. Double Double placed second at the SAMU Music Showdown, and performed at the 2018 MacEwan Fall Festival alongside Bif Naked and The Reklaws.
The folk duo have recently begun to perform with Christina Kruszewski and Jessamy Vegter, filling out their live and studio sound with three part harmony, gentle keys, ukulele, and driving rhythms.
December 13, 2019 saw the release of "Yellowknife", a new single from Double Double. Recorded at Royal Studios with Arnel Ethier (The Bros. Landreth, Evergreen, Nature Of), the track is the pair's most intimate yet ambitious project yet, expanding on the duo's vocal and guitar core with cello, piano, banjo, and drums.
